This is the thirty-seventh annual national juried exhibition produced by the Associates of the Brand Library & Art Center. Eighty-five works on paper in a variety of media, including etchings, photography, pen & ink, various print techniques including intaglio, linocuts, and monotypes, watercolors and mixed media works have been selected. The juror Kim Abeles made selections based on the technical quality of the work and the successful expression of the exhibition’s theme, Here & Now. The Brand Associates Purchase Award and other awards, totaling almost $4,000 will be presented during the reception on Saturday, September 27th.

This exciting exhibition features the work of sixty-two artists and many local residents from Glendale, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Long Beach, San Diego, various San Gabriel and San Fernando Valley cities and other parts of California in addition to the works from artists across the country.

The annual national juried exhibitions have been organized and sponsored by the Associates of Brand Library since 1971. The current organizer of this annual exhibition is Associates Board Member Irena Raulinaitis.

JUROR:

Abeles’ mid-career survey Encyclopedia Persona A-Z toured the United States and South America, and was awarded the Best Regional Museum Show Category for 1993-94 by International Association of Art Critics. She continues to exhibit internationally, including a forthcoming show in Cuba. Her work is in numerous private and public collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and is archived in several library collections including the Smithsonian. Abeles work was awarded several grants including those from the California Arts Council and the J. Paul Getty Trust Fund for the Visual Arts. More at www.kimabeles.com
