The mission of the Brand Library Art Galleries is to offer visitors a professional gallery experience by showcasing works of established and emerging artists from California—particularly from Southern California—that educate, enlighten, challenge, and enrich people’s lives. To see images from past Brand Library Art Galleries exhibitions visit the photo archive on our website.
Original work in all media will be considered. Work submitted must be current (produced within the last four years). We are particularly interested in complementing two-dimensional work with three-dimensional sculpture, ceramics, multi-media installations, etc. that make use of the galleries’ floor and air space.
To be considered, the artist/artist representative/curator must submit the following materials:
- Letter of introduction/cover letter
- Artist statement
- A resume outlining the artist’s or curator’s career and education, or a description of the artist group including mission, membership and exhibition history
- Completed and signed submission form (click here to download)
- Visual representations of no more than 20 works of art, in slide, printed or digital format; digital format preferred. Websites cannot be used as a substitute. Digital images must be in JPEG format and must not exceed 1 MB in size; TIF, PDF, PowerPoint, Photoshop files (.PSD / .PDD), and iPhoto folders will not be accepted. Portfolios of original materials will not be accepted.
- Self-Addressed and Stamped Envelope (SASE) for return of submission materials by mail. (Submissions without envelopes or with envelopes lacking proper postage will not be returned.) The submission materials of artists selected to exhibit become the property of Brand Library Art Galleries and will not be returned.
Submission materials may be mailed or hand delivered to:

Selection Process
Submissions will be reviewed in February/March, and notification letters sent by the end of April. The Gallery Manager will invite selected artists, curators, or groups for an interview. Decisions are made based on the quality of the artwork or proposal, the degree to which the work corresponds to the galleries’ mission, the professionalism of the submission materials, and the desire to present a diverse yet well-balanced exhibition schedule.
Interviews generally take place in the artist’s studio; in some cases artist interviews will be conducted at Brand Library Art Galleries and artists asked to bring artwork examples to the interview. Within four weeks of the interview, the artist, curator, or group will either be assigned an exhibition date or the submission materials will be returned. Once selected, artists will be grouped for exhibition with 2 to 4 other artists. The notification and interview timeline is subject to change at the discretion of Brand Library Art Galleries staff.
Artists, curators, or groups not selected for the 2010 exhibition season may re-apply in the next submission cycle.
