What is a Book Group Kit and how can it be checked out?
- Book Group Kits are canvas bags that contain everything that a book discussion group needs-15 copies of the same title, discussion questions, book reviews, author information and tips on how to run a book group.
- The items in a Book Group Kit all have the same Library barcode and the contents are checked out as one item.
Who can check out a Book Group Kit?
- The kits are designed to be checked out to one member of a book group.
- Once the Book Kit is checked out, the books can be shared with the group members.
Where are the Book Group Kits located?
- Book Group Kits are kept at the Casa Verdugo Branch Library, 1151 North Brand Blvd., Glendale.
Can I arrange for a Book Group Kit to be sent to another Glendale library?
- Yes. Contact the Casa Verdugo Branch and the kit can be sent. (818) 548-2047 mwollam@ci.glendale.ca.us
For how long can a Book Group Kit be checked out?
- 8 weeks
- This amount of time allows a member of a book group to check out a Kit, hand out books to the group at its next meeting, allow the members to keep and read the books until the following meeting (the meeting where the group is discussed) and then collect the books from the members and return the Kit.
Can I renew a Book Group Kit?
Can I place a computer catalog hold on a Book Group Kit?
- Not at this time.
- After the Library expands the number of Kits, you will be able to to place holds.
Will my group be able to make an advance phone or e-mail reservation on a Book Group Kit?
- Yes
- If your group plans a book discussion calendar, your group can arrange in advance to schedule a particular Kit for a particular 8 week check out period.
Can I check out more than one Book Group Kit at a time?
- Yes. If you are discussing the book from one Book Group Kit at a meeting and want to distribute the books from a second Kit for the next meeting, you can check out 2 kits.
How do I know if I am checking out a complete kit?
- Before every kit is circulated, the contents are checked to make sure that it is complete.
Where can I return Book Group Kits?
- Book Group Kits must be returned to a Glendale Public Library site.
- They may not be returned in book drops.
What if I discover that books or other contents are missing from the Book Group Kits before I turn them in?
- Please check the contents of each Kit before returning it.
- If any books are missing, the replacement cost of each must be paid.
Are there overdue fees for late Book Group Kits?
- Overdue Book Group Kits are fined $1.00 per day.
