HISTORY
After being served from 1963 to 1972 by the Bookmobile, Chevy Chase Canyon received its own branch library on May 24, 1972. The branch survived some tumultuous times, including being closed after Proposition 13. For the past several years, the branch has been open two days per week.

NEIGHBORHOOD PROFILE
The Chevy Chase Branch is sited in a hilly area surrounded by upscale single family residences. It is a neighborhood defined by its geography and by the fact that the only entrance to and exit from Glendale is Chevy Chase Drive. The service area of the branch extends east to Pasadena (where Linda Vista leads to Chevy Chase Drive), northeast to La Canada Flintridge, south to Eagle Rock and west to where Chevy Chase Drive begins its ascent up into Chevy Chase Canyon. With the exception of the library, a fire station, a country club and golf course and a mini mart, everything else in the neighborhood is residential housing. At the entrance of Chevy Chase Drive there are small businesses, two churches, a major hospital and apartment houses. There is no public transportation and very few pedestrians, except for those who use the steep road as an exercise route.

CHEVY CHASE VOLUNTEERS
The Chevy Chase Volunteers is a group of neighborhood patrons who work to raise awareness about the Branch and its services and perform shelving, clerical and fundraising tasks for the library. Volunteers also present programs, including a once-a-month Wednesday book review group. The book review group meets the third Wednesday of the month 6:45 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. to discuss books and authors. Anyone interested in being a volunteer or attending the book review group, may call (818) 548-2046 during open hours.

COMPUTER CATALOG
