Q: What hours are eBooks available?
A: eBooks are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Q: What do I need to use eBooks?
A: You need a computer (desktop, laptop or PDA) with Internet access, speakers or headphones.
You also need a Glendale Library card and a PIN (personal ID number). Obtain a PIN by visiting any branch of the Glendale Public Library.
For Overdrive, you will download free software (Adobe Reader or Overdrive Media Console) to your own computer.
Q: How many eBooks can I borrow?
A: You can check out up to 5 titles from Overdrive at one time.
Q: How long can I keep eBooks on my computer?
A: Overdrive books can be kept for 14 days. After that, the software "returns" the book so that it can no longer be read or listened to.
Q: Can I renew Overdrive eBooks?
A: Yes, you can renew Overdrive ebooks if no one else has placed a hold on the title you want to renew.
Q: Can I place holds on eBooks?
A: You may place up to 10 holds on Overdrive titles at any time. You will be notified by email when the title becomes available to borrow.
Q: Can I copy eBooks to other devices?
A: Depending on the digital rights to individual titles, you may transfer Overdrive titles to a PDA or copy to an MP3 player. Some titles can be copied to CD for personal use, using Windows Media Player. eBooks are not authorized for download to Ipods or other Apple devices.
eBooks may not be downloaded to Library computers. Library computers do not have the ability to copy to CDs.
Q: Can I suggest eBook titles for the Library to purchase?
A: Yes you can, but we are limited at present to Overdrive. We expect to add other selections over time.
