Renewing Books & Requesting Items
(Placing Holds)

How to Renew Library Books

Renew checked-out items:

  • In person at any Glendale or Pasadena library facility

  • By telephone: (626) 449-5847

  • In the "My Account" area of the online catalog.

To renew books in the online catalog, you will need a valid Glendale or Pasadena borrower's card and PIN. Follow these steps to renew items: Click the MY ACCOUNT tab; Click CHECKED OUT; Click the box for all items, or for individual items; Click the RENEW button.

Additional Information

  • Circulating materials are renewable unless they are marked 'non-renewable,' or are on 'hold' for other patrons. A renewable item checked out on your account may be renewed twice at any Glendale or Pasadena Public Library. Items can also be renewed online or by phone.
  • Materials that circulate for three weeks (21 days) can be borrowed for two additional three-week periods. Overdue books carry fines of $0.25 per day.
  • Long-loan materials that circulate for eight weeks (56 days) may be renewed for two additional eight-week periods (e.g., literacy materials).
  • Library card privileges are not transferable, and can only be utilized by the registered owner of the library card. Patrons who have items out on their account cannot check them out again on someone else's account unless the other cardholder is present.

How to Request Items (Place Holds)

Request items:

  • In person or on the phone with a Librarian's assistance

  • In the online catalog. You will need a valid Glendale or Pasadena borrower's card and PIN.
  • Search for materials in the online catalog. When you have found the titles you want to request, click the PLACE REQUEST button. You will be instructed to log in using your library card number and PIN. Follow instructions to place your request.

Obtaining a PIN

You must have a PIN (Personal Identification Number) to renew items or place holds in the Online Catalog. If you have an existing password in the online catalog, you must change the password to a PIN. Call the Glendale Library Circulation Desk, (818) 548-2021 for assistance.
